Sewer overflows in Prince George’s

On Friday morning, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission responded to a sewer overflow from a manhole in Prince’s George County.

The spill occurred outside the WWSC’s Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant, located near the 14300 block of Indian Head Highway in Accokeek, Md.

Authorities said the overflow began about 9:50 a.m. and ended minutes before 1 p.m. More than 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater came from the manhole and then spilled into Accokeek Creek. Until Saturday the cause of the overflow remained undetermined, according to the WSCC spokesman.
