Detectives are trying to determine how a 2-year-old boy was shot inside a Montgomery County home Saturday and whether the incident was an accident or a criminal act, police said Sunday.

The boy, whose injuries were described as not life-threatening, was shot at a home in the 19400 block of Brassie Place in Montgomery Village shortly after 5 p.m., county police said.

A family member called 911 to report the incident while driving the boy, who does not live in the home, to a hospital. The toddler was wounded in a lower extremity, the caller said.

Police did not release the identities of anyone involved.

Detectives have interviewed multiple witnesses to the shooting, including the boy’s family members. Officials from Child Protective Services were also notified, police said.
