Three attempted bank robbers are on the run Tuesday morning after trying to pull out an ATM machine with a backhoe.
Montgomery County Police said the suspects fled on foot from a Bank of America location in the 10000 block of Falls Road in Potomac after the failed robbery attempt.
The unusual incident happened just before 2 a.m., when the would-be robbers allegedly tied a chain around the ATM and tried to remove the heavy machine using a backhoe and pickup truck.
Their efforts set off a bank alarm, alerting authorities, who responded to the scene. Police are now searching for the suspects, who officials said were dressed in black and wearing white gloves.
The suspects did not successfully steal anything, but they did damage the ATM.
