A woman was found slain in a Silver Spring high-rise apartment Friday morning, and detectives were questioning an acquaintance of hers, a man they described as a suspect. No charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon.

Montgomery County police were dispatched to the Chateau Apartment Homes, just south of the Capital Beltway near New Hampshire Avenue, at 8:09 a.m. Friday. A co-worker of the victim’s, concerned that she had not been to work, called police, according to authorities.

Officers knocked on the apartment door but didn’t get a response, police said. With the help of property managers, the officers entered the apartment, where they found a dead woman with trauma to her body. They also found a man and took him into custody, according to police.

The man was taken to a police facility and questioned by detectives. “Investigators believe that the suspect and victim were known to each other,” police officials said in a statement. “As it is early in the investigation, the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim cannot be confirmed.”

Police officers and crime scene investigators could be seen outside the apartment building Friday, looking through a large garbage container. It wasn’t clear whether they found evidence of value.
