Ridership on two District bus lines, the S2 and the S4, has exploded, leaving passengers frustrated — and left behind when a vehicle is too crowded. Metro says it’s working on the problem.
July 17, 2012 Cory Smith, 23, waits for the S4 bus on the corner of 16th and P streets NW. A bus had passed several stops and waiting people because it was at capacity. The influx of service workers whose shifts end at 10 p.m. has created a second rush hour in public transportation that lasts until midnight. The S2 and S4 bus lines to Silver Spring in particular are often packed to the point where the buses skip stops to avoid overcrowding. Daniel C. Britt/THE WASHINGTON POST Buy Photo
