A former federal employee was accused of stealing more than $880,000 in money and property from the government, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said Friday.

The prosecutor’s office said an information was filed accusing John C. Beale, a former Environmental Protection Agency employee, of theft of government property over a period of about a dozen years. The document alleged that the money and property came into Beale’s hands as salary, benefits and retention incentive bonuses he had not earned.
