Thousands in Maryland still without power after Sandy

In far western Maryland, thousands of homes and businesses remain without power after last week’s storm.

In hilly Garrett County, where Hurricane Sandy brought heavy snow, almost 4,700 customers lacked power Sunday night, according to the Web site of Potomac Edison.

Restoration for most Garrett customers was expected by midnight Tuesday, the utility said in an online posting. The next largest number of the utility’s remaining outages was about 360 in Frederick County. Some were on Hansonville Road, where many trees fell, resident Julie Crutchley said.
