The new Intelligence Community Campus — Bethesda, a top-secret facility off MacArthur Boulevard in Bethesda, is facing protests by residents who say the new campus will spoil their Potomac River views.
Dec. 4, 2011 Penny and Dick Doolittle sit on their deck overlooking the site of what will be called the Intelligence Community Campus — Bethesda. For decades, the the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency has operated out of 40-acre site along the Potomac River in the upscale Palisades community. Now, the agency is gone, being replaced by a secret group of intelligence agencies that want to redesign the site and plant a huge parking garage in everyone's backyard. The neighbors — well-educated, affluent Washingtonians — are irate. They are accustomed to getting what they want, but feel somewhat powerless as they take on, in true Washington fashion, the secret intelligence industry. Carol Guzy/The Washington Post Buy Photo
