The Maryland State Highway Administration will close a stretch of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway/MD-295 near Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport overnight for portions of the next two weekends.
Crews are replacing the West Nursery Road bridges over the parkway.
One lane of the parkway will be closed in each direction beginning at 8 p.m. Friday. All lanes of the parkway will be closed in both directions near the airport beginning at 11 p.m. and won’t reopen until 6 a.m. Saturday.
The same closures will occur the next weekend, with one lane closing each way at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 and the entire parkway closing at 11 p.m. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Oct. 27.
Traffic will be detoured along a single lane using ramps from West Nursery Road. Expect serious delays along this construction detour.
Crews will also close West Nursery Road from 10 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Sunday and again at 10 p.m. Oct. 26 until 8 a.m. Oct. 28.
If you’re heading to the airport from the east, take I-97 to Dorsey Road/MD 176 and follow the signs for the airport. If you’re heading there from the west, take I-95 to I-195.
If you need to pass through the area to get to sporting events in Baltimore or Washington, officials recommend I-95 or I-97.
Schedule and routing changes will affect four Fairfax Connector routes beginning Monday.
●Route 231: Service to the Landsdowne and Island Creek neighborhoods along Morning View and View Lane will be eliminated after 6:45 a.m. Route 335 will serve the neighborhoods after 6:45 a.m.
●Route 232: Service to the Landsdowne and Island Creek neighborhoods along Morning View and View Lane is eliminated before 6 p.m. Route 335 will serve the neighborhoods before 6 p.m.
●Route 333: Routing- and schedule-altering service to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station, the Saratoga Park and Ride, and other locations. Elimination of service to several points, including Boston Boulevard, the Fairfax County Parkway and Rolling Road.
●Route 334: Schedule and routing changes, including removal of service from Boston Boulevard, Fullerton Road and Rolling Road.
Road work continues near George Mason University in Fairfax County.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is paving a stretch on University Drive between Rappahannock River Lane and Rapidan River Road, and the work is not scheduled to wrap up until early on Wednesday.
One lane will be closed at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following mornings.
The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project continues to close ramps and lanes around the Telegraph Road/Beltway interchange. Until 5 a.m. Monday, watch for the following:
●The inner loop local will be reduced to one lane between U.S. 1 and Telegraph Road. (Use the thru lanes here.)
●The inner loop local exit ramp to Telegraph Road north and Eisenhower Avenue will be closed. Drivers should try using Exit 174 to Eisenhower Avenue east.)
●The access ramps from U.S. 1 north and south to the inner loop local lanes will be closed. Drivers should use the access ramp to the thru lanes.
