Video shows shooting suspect in wounding of 3-year-old girl

Surveillance video captured a man shooting on a street corner near where a 3-year-old girl was struck in the leg by what appears to be a stray bullet as she played on an apartment balcony in Southeast Washington on Thursday.

D.C. police are asking anyone who recognizes the gunman, and another man he was with, to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The video shows two men turning a corner near where the shooting occurred in the 2400 block of Elvans Road. One man stops, turns toward the camera and fires a gun at least three times. There is a short pause before the man fires one or two more bursts. His target, if there is any, can’t be seen.

The girl was struck shortly after 6 p.m. and was taken to a hospital for wounds that were not life-threatening. Police said she had been playing on a third-floor balcony of the Forest Ridge apartment complex.
