The Arlington County Board agreed Saturday to advertise a property tax rate increase of no larger than 2 cents per $100 of assessed value to help pay for growing school enrollment and Metro.

The board won’t actually set the tax rate until later this spring, after working through the budget and holding a public hearing.

The board also agreed to set a March 30 public hearing about raising its own pay 3.5 percent , about the same that county employees are due to receive under the county manager’s proposed budget. The board has not had a pay raise in four of the last six years. The proposal would hike most members’ salary to $53,282 and the chair’s pay to $59,610.
