Webster Griffith, 82, dies in crash with Fairfax Connector bus in Reston

An 82-year-old man died last week after the car he was riding in rear-ended a Fairfax Connector bus in Reston, authorities said Tuesday.

Webster Griffith, of Fieldstone Lane in Reston, was a passenger in the car when it collided with the bus around 7 p.m. last Friday.

Fairfax County Police said the driver of the car, an 82-year-old woman whose name was not released, was attempting to change lanes on Sunrise Valley Drive, near Commerce Park Drive.

Both the driver and the passenger were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where Griffith was pronounced dead. No details were available about the condition of the driver. No one on the bus was injured.

Police said that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, and no charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation.
