When Asian immigration was banned, John F. Kennedy stepped in to help a Japanese woman
A determined young American named Angelo Amato fell in love with a Japanese woman named Kimiko Yamaguchi in 1947, when he was stationed in Japan with the Occupation Forces. He wanted to marry her and bring her home to East Boston, but Asian immigration was banned under the Immigration Act of 1924. So he asked his congressman, John F. Kennedy, for help.
