The recent temperature plunge almost certainly caused Metro rails to crack, contributing to massive delays on several lines this morning. Crews were able to splice together a cracked rail at Prince George’s Plaza but had to replace a 39-foot section of rail after a severe break at East Falls Church. Read related article.
