A woman leapt from a Tenleytown Metro station platform and suffered life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a Red Line train Wednesday night, transit officials said.

The woman intentionally jumped in front of an outbound train to Glenmont about 9:30 p.m., said Caroline Lukas, a Metro spokeswoman. Rescuers removed the injured woman from the tracks, and she was taken to a hospital.

After the incident, officials were forced to single-track traffic between the Van Ness and Friendship Heights stations, creating delays of 15 to 20 minutes, Lukas said.
