Guide is fatally shot
on Eastern Shore

A hunting guide was shot and killed Saturday on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in what authorities said was an accident.

Marvin Bowen Coppage, 75, of Henderson, Md., was killed in Queen Anne’s County by a shotgun blast from a client as he and his dog were flushing a bird from brush during a guided hunt for pheasant and chukar, the Maryland Natural Resources Police said. Chukar is a game bird in the pheasant family.

The police said they thought that the blast came from the gun of a 14-year-old boy who was a member of the hunting party that had hired Coppage.
