A woman walking toward a commuter parking lot was hit by a car and killed on Wednesday morning in the Centreville area.

Pavithra Kenjige, 52, was struck by a Toyota Camry on Lee Highway at about 6:23 a.m. She was transported to a hospital, where she died.

Officer Roger Henriquez, a Fairfax County police spokesman, said that Kenjige was crossing the highway about 350 feet east of the Stone Road intersection. She was walking toward the park-and-ride lot at the intersection of Lee Highway and Stone Road, which is operated by the county and served by several buses.

Police did not identify the driver who hit Kenjige, but said he was a 39-year-old man from Culpeper. He did not appear to have been speeding or drinking alcohol, police said.
