Rare mare crossing: Comus Rd., 17700 block, Dickerson, Aug. 23. Three horses were spotted running loose in a neighborhood. Before an animal services officer arrived, a resident contained the animals. The investigator located the horses’ owner, who said he did not know how the bay mare and two chestnut mares had escaped. He said that he was unable to keep the animals and was looking for a home for them. A neighbor adopted one of the horses, and the others were taken by Lost and Found Horse Rescue Foundation in Germantown.

Falcon flies off course: Bromfield Rd., 13900 block, Germantown, Aug. 23. A large bird lost its way and ended up in the sunroom of a resident’s home. A field agent captured the bird, a peregrine falcon, and, after determining the bird was not sick or injured, released it outdoors. It was unclear how or why the bird had entered the sunroom.
