As the nationwide reckoning sparked by George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis continues, 18 people are facing charges of criminal conduct for their actions during protests this week in Portland, Ore., and the FBI is defending its response to the confrontations. Another night of protests was expected in several cities Friday; a Black Lives Matter rally and march drew some 500 people in Chicago. Here are some significant developments:
