Man, 5 children die in mobile-home fire

A fast-moving fire killed a man and five children ages 6 and younger Sunday morning when it swept through a mobile home in Tiffin, Ohio.

Firefighters got the six out in about 12 minutes, but they were pronounced dead at a hospital, Tiffin Fire Chief William Ennis Jr. said.

Owanna Ortiz said her first cousin Anna Angel was the children’s mother and lived in the home with them and the man who died. She said Angel had four daughters of her own as well as a son with the man.

A state fire marshal’s investigator said there was no indication of anything suspicious.

Mother charged in children’s deaths

Two children found dead in a Southern California hotel room after their suicidal mother crashed her car outside a shopping complex were a boy, 13, and a girl, 10, a police spokesman said Sunday.

The children’s mother, Marilyn Edge, 42, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was arrested Saturday and booked on suspicion of murder, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. She is expected in court Tuesday for an arraignment hearing.

More rain prompts flash-flood watch in New Mexico. Another round of rainfall moved across New Mexico on Sunday, renewing the threat of heavy runoff from already saturated soils and flooding in low areas as residents faced a major cleanup effort from damage left in the wake of days of relentless rain. The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood watch for much of central and northern New Mexico.
