Coast Guard responding to tugboats in distress near Corpus Christi

The Coast Guard is responding to mayday calls from three tugboats stranded near Port Aransas, Tex., as Hurricane Harvey continues to pummel the area with heavy seas, wind and rain.

Crews aboard the three tugboats — Belle Chase, Sandy Point and Sabine Pass — made distress calls to the Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi Saturday morning.

The Coast Guard said it had launched two MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Corpus Christi to Lydia Ann Channel to rescue the tugboat crews.

“As information continues to come in to the Coast Guard, we continue to monitor and respond to any situations for safety of life at sea,” Capt. Tony Hahn, commander of Sector Corpus Christi, said in a statement.
