Harvey makes landfall as Category 4 hurricane

Hurricane Harvey made landfall at 11:00 p.m. (10 p.m. central) between Port Aransas and Port O’Connor, Texas as a Category 4 hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.  Packing 130 mph winds, it is the first major hurricane, rated Category 3 or higher, to strike U.S. soil since Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

It ends a 12-year major hurricane drought for the U.S. coastline, the longest in recorded history.
