A pod of killer whales had been trapped for two days near a northern Canadian village, but residents report that the ice has opened and the whales are gone.
Jan. 8, 2013 Killer whales surface through a small hole in the ice near Inukjuak in Northern Quebec. A pod of about a dozen killer whales lost access to open water for about two days after a recent sudden drop in temperatures froze the part of Hudson Bay they were in. On Thursday, the ice shifted, apparently freeing the whales. Marina Lacasse/AP Buy Photo
