March 11, 2014 “The Jungle” in San Jose, Calif., is only a stone’s throw from multimillion dollar homes that line Silicon Valley, home to tech giants such as Apple, Google and Facebook. What used to be a city dump is now believed to be the nation’s largest homeless encampment,housing at times as many as 350 residents, according to the Associated Press.Marcio Jose Sanchez/AP
The contest is accepting entries in one or all of four categories: wildlife, landscapes, underwater and aerials. The grand-prize winner will receive $10,000, publication in National Geographic Magazine and a feature on National Geographic’s Instagram account.
