Kay Koplovitz Business strategy and business development | Listening to famed science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke in the 1960s, Kay Koplovitz became excited about the potential for geosynchronous orbiting satellites. She went on to found USA Network, and the Sci-Fi Channel and USA Networks International. She created the business model for cable networks by introducing the concept of dual revenue streams – licensing and advertising. Her company was sold for $4.5 billion in 1998. Later, she launched Springboard Enterprises — which teaches women entrepreneurs to “think big” about their growth companies and to raise venture capital to fund them. Since its inception in 2000, Springboard Companies have raised over $6.2 billion and created over 20,000 jobs. In 2001, she co-founded Boldcap Ventures, and early stage VC firm in which all the investors are women. Photo courtesy of Nikki Short
