GREENWOOD, S.C. — A small plane has crashed in western South Carolina and authorities say the two people on board escaped without serious injuries.

Greenwood County sheriff's Lt. John Long told media outlets the plane came down about 7:30 a.m. Friday while on approach to the county airport.

Emergency crews responded to the site near the end of the runway and found two people who authorities say did not suffer life threatening injuries.

Greenwood is about 65 miles (105 kilometers) west of Columbia.
