NEWARK, Del. — A Delaware hospital network will offer free genomic testing to people with advanced or rare cancer to enable better access to national clinical trials and new types of treatment.

The News Journal reports the Christiana Care Health System has partnered with Strata Oncology to give patients with lymphoma or late-stage solid tumors free testing, beginning Feb. 1.

The medical director of the system’s cancer center, Dr. Nicholas Petrelli, says testing will lead to more personalized treatments, as it looks at how the genes in the tumor work and interact with other genes.

Petrelli says genome sequencing isn’t common at regional cancer centers, as it’s expensive. Christiana Care is one of the few community cancer centers to work with Strata.

Christiana Care also serves parts of Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey.
