Ethan Rediske (with Rediske family permission)

Rick Roach,  a member of the Orange County School Board in Florida, sent the following e-mail about the death on Friday of 11-year-old Ethan Rediske, who became known in Florida after his mother, Andrea, fought a state requirement that her blind son, who had brain damage as well as cerebral palsy, take standardized tests.

I wrote about Ethan earlier in the week after his mom said she had to fill out forms proving that Ethan, who was dying, was not in any condition to take a a state-mandated test. You can read more about Andrea and Ethan Rediske here.

Here’s the e-mail from Rick Roach:

Just got word from our school district that our beloved Ethan Rediske passed away today.

My condolences to the family. Ethan’s life will be a beacon for change, I have no doubt about it. I promise to work as hard as I can on his behalf and the behalf of his family who loved him.

Thanks to his wonderful teachers who loved him, and nurtured him right up until his last days.
