Most educated city in U.S.? Data says it’s Washington, D.C.

And the data says: The most educated metropolitan area in the country is Washington, D.C., with San Jose being a close second.

Using recently released figures from the the  U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, Headlight Data, an online data aggregator designed for economic and workforce development organizations, also said that 2014 marked the first time that more women than men held a bachelor’s degree or higher — 30.2 percent to 29.9 percent.

There are, of course, a number of different rankings of “the most educated city,” and results vary. For example, in August 2015, WalletHub.com, a personal finance website, declared No. 1 to be Ann Arbor, Mich., based on data from the Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources. But that ranking looked not only at the percentage of higher education degrees among the population but also the perceived quality of public education in American cities.
