File this under moms know best: Carole Middleton may have correctly chosen the birth date of her grandchild. In the weeks leading up to the speculated delivery date, Kate’s mother reportedly told family and friends that the baby would be a Leo, the astrological sign that starts at 5 p.m. GMT (or 12:00 p.m. EST) July 22nd.

The due date was believed to be July 13th or “mid-July,” though the odds-on favorite for gambling types was July 17. Speculators have been pouring in their guesses in the form of bets for months. Bookmakers estimated having received $1.5 million in wagers by early July on everything from the name to the birth date.

In the hours since the palace announced Kate was in labor, more than 50,000 bets have been made, according to the Associated Press.

If the immediate family had it’s own pool, it looks like Carole would have taken the grand prize. Though insider-knowledge may have provided an unfair advantage.
