UPDATE: Reports that *NSync would be reuniting during the VMAs have come into question after Lance Bass addressed what he called “rumors” Tuesday night on his SiriusXm show, “Dirty Pop with Lance Bass.” Bass explained how the reports may have “come about,” though never flat out denied an impending performance.

When reached for question, MTV declined to comment.

ORIGINAL STORY: It’s a reunion 10 years in the making: Justin Timberlake, on stage with former band mates JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick. The New York Post’s Page Six is reporting that the group, which gave its last televised performance at the 2003 Grammys, is set to perform at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 25.

There is no telling what methods of cajoling were used on the part of MTV — although an ongoing battle to increase ratings and overall relevance has to be a motivating factor.

The boy band will be joined by several of pop’s reigning royals, most notably Lady Gaga who, will open the show and, one hopes, preview her new album, due on Nov. 11.

Katy Perry will also return to the stage to perform her new single, “Roar.” Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke will round out the acts, which will air live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

JT was already on his way to be the star of the evening — receiving six nominations and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. His come-back album, “The 20/20 Experience,” was the year’s best-selling and will be followed up with a second edition set to be released Sept. 30.

Here’s a little something to satisfy any *NSync cravings in anticipation of Sunday’s show.
