Kenneth Cole didn’t learn from #Cairo, posts another controversial tweet

Kenneth Cole hasn’t learned his lesson about using extremely serious current events to promote his brand. The designer posted the following tweet Thursday afternoon:

No one really appreciated the joke the last time around in 2011, when Cole promoted his Web site during the Cairo protests: “Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online at http://bit.ly/KCairo -KC.”

Afterwards, he was forced to apologize, later tweeting, “Re Egypt tweet: we weren’t intending to make light of a serious situation. We understand the sensitivity of this historic moment -KC.”

The Cairo tweet was deleted, but Thursday’s post referencing Syria still remains. Despite instant backlash online, the main reaction appears to be one of disbelief that Cole would make the same mistake twice.
