Claire Danes shocked red-carpet watchers as she emerged Sunday night with a seemingly clipped bob — much shorter than her shoulder-length hair at the Emmys pre-party the night before.

Fans and red carpet hosts alike clamored to discover whether the “Homeland” actress had gone the way of Elisabeth Moss and Lena Dunham and chopped off her locks.

The riddle was quickly solved — the talents of celebrity hairstylist Peter Butler were at work, and the bob was created as an illusion to elongate Dane’s neck and silhouette in her plunging Armani Prive gown.

Butler used a combination of John Frieda products, first applying hair serum and styling mousse to wet hair before blow-drying to create texture.

Then the stylist parted Dane’s hair on the side and used a large-barreled curling iron to curl inward. Butler created two pin curls at the nape of her neck, combing the hair down and pinning it to the base. Once everything was in place, a layer of hairspray and frizz-ease shine was added to hold the look and keep it glossy.
