Wednesday night’s People’s Choice Awards? For the most part, exactly what you would expect. Stilted on-stage banter. Stars in the front row looking very unsurprised when they were announced as winners. CBS shows coincidentally sweeping up prizes. But there were a few standout moments. In case you missed it, here’s what people will be talking about from the annual fan-voted show on CBS:

Jennifer Hudson’s emotional speech

The singer made for the most memorable moment of the night as she delivered a teary speech, accepting the award for favorite humanitarian. Hudson took the stage with her sister, Julia — the pair started the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, a children’s charity named after Julia’s son, who was killed in 2008 (along with their mother and brother). Hudson dedicated the award to their family members.

“It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have power,” Hudson told the crowd. “But it means nothing if we’re not making a difference with helping someone else.”

Justin Timberlake reminds everyone he’s just a regular guy

The rest of the show had a much lighter tone, including plenty of screen time for A-listers. And they have to do chores, just like everyone else. “I’d like to thank my beautiful wife [Jessica Biel] for teaching me patience and the little things like just putting the dishes in the dishwasher — it goes a long way,” Timberlake declared, picking up three prizes for male artist, R&B artist and album of the year. “Fellas, you’re welcome.”

“Vampire Diaries” co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev prove they are well-adjusted exes

In scripted but adorable banter, the former tabloid-favorite couple accepted the prize for favorite on-screen chemistry and took the opportunity to explain the sordid backstory of their romance.

Dobrev: “We started dating on the show.”

Somerhalder: “Then we started in real life.”

Dobrev: “And then we broke up in real life.”

Somerhalder: ” … And yet, our characters are still dating on the show.”

Dobrev: “It’s a good thing it’s not awkward!”

Everyone still loves Sandra Bullock and Ellen DeGeneres

Sandra Bullock took home four trophies, making her the biggest winner of the night (as well as being named favorite comedic and dramatic movie actress; now that’s versatility.)

DeGeneres won for favorite daytime TV host, her 14th  award, the most ever for a woman in People’s Choice history.”Fourteen, this is incredible,” DeGeneres deadpanned. “As a young girl growing up in New Orleans, if anyone told me I was going to win 14 People’s Choice Awards — I mean 12, yes, 13,  maybe. But 14?”
