Miley Cyrus isn’t one to shy away from shock value, but fans got a surprise of a different sort when the singer busted out two unexpected covers during the Los Angeles stop on her “Bangerz” tour.

Cyrus offered a mellow rendition of Outkast’s “Hey Ya,” infused with a good dose of country twang, to concertgoers at L.A.’s Staples Center. The video hit YouTube and the Internet was delighted. Not even Gawker could snark on it.

Cyrus was later joined  by Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of iconic psychedelic rock band, the Flaming Lips. “I’m a true fan of these amazing guys right here,” Cyrus gushed, before the trio launched into a performance of the band’s hit, “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

The Flaming Lips are Miley Cyrus fans? Who knew?

Cyrus has a number of covers in her repertoire (she’s even covered herself). She often performs Dolly Parton’s classic “Jolene” (and yes, it’s Dolly-approved). Here she is performing it with her band.

She covered Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” for BBC One Radio.

And if  you’re more into Cyrus’s antics than her adventurous covers, fear not. She also planted a smooch on fellow pop star Katy Perry during Saturday night’s show.
