Wondering why Kerry Washington is conspicuously absent from White House Correspondents’ Dinner activities even though the entire cast of “Scandal” has been running around D.C. this weekend? Apparently, it’s because she just became a first-time mom. Washington and her husband, former NFL star Nnamdi Asomugha, recently welcomed a baby girl named Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, TMZ reported on Friday.

In true Kerry Washington fashion, it was a closely-kept secret — she actually gave birth about two weeks ago in Los Angeles, according to TMZ, which has a way of finding out these things. The notoriously private actress, 37, also never actually confirmed her pregnancy until she showed up on all the red carpets at many award shows this past winter. (She got married in secret, as well.)

Washington’s pregnancy wasn’t written into the storylines for ABC’s increasingly-preposterous drama “Scandal,” though there were a lot of jokes about the hilarious ways the writers tried to cover up her growing bump (purses, coats, plants and more). As a result of her pregnancy, the third season was cut from 22 episodes to 18.

Her husband, Asomugha, is a former player for the Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles. As Washingtonians might know, Washington is a graduate of George Washington University — she gave the commencement speech last year.
