Word arrived this morning from Hogwarts that one of Harry Potter’s tormenters will get her own cameo this Halloween.

J.K. Rowling will post a short story about former Hogwarts professor Dolores Umbridge on Pottermore, the website that offers related features and retail products to the legion of HP fans.

Umbridge, whom we met in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” is a witch who served as the senior undersecretary to the Minister for Magic. This morning’s Owl Post notes that she is “one of the most malicious ‘Potter’ characters” and “the only person other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent physical scar on Harry.”

Rowling has called Umbridge “a very nasty piece of work.” Ultimately, the disgraced professor was arrested and imprisoned at Azkaban for crimes against Muggleborns. (Imelda Staunton played her in the film adaptations.)

Though a mere 1,700 words, this upcoming story — to be released for free on Oct. 31 — promises “many new details, as well as Rowling’s revealing first-person thoughts and reflections about the character.”

Rowling posts new original content on Pottermore about every two months.
