This is part of a  clue from a thorny puzzle in a Post Hunt past. Seen anything like that on “Game of Thrones”?

Move aside, Game of Thrones. We’ll show you a real game — a game of thorns. Thorny puzzles. And we have funny costumes, too.

The eighth annual Post Hunt is upon us! On Sunday, May 31, the most brilliant, creative, illustrious and industrious minds in the country will converge on downtown Washington. Oh, and Dave Barry, Tom Shroder and Gene Weingarten will be there, too.

Thousands will try to solve five diabolical puzzles built onto the urban landscape, plus a torturous End Game, all created by these three madmen. The first to reach the ultimate solution will win $2,000.

The day is filled with mirth, head-scratching and much jousting of the cerebral cortex. Many people come in teams (and costumes); some form teams at the Hunt. The hearty and brave and insane go it solo. Some competitors get married there (okay, that part isn’t really true — yet).

To join the merriment, be at Freedom Plaza (14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW) by noon on Sunday, May 31. Bring the May 31 Washington Post Magazine. You’ll need it and the instructions you’ll get from Gene, Tom and Dave from the main stage in Freedom Plaza to begin working the puzzles. The Hunt ends about 4 p.m.

You’ll find rules and practice puzzles at washingtonpost.com/posthunt. You can bring your spouse, children, relatives, friends and co-workers, too. You can even bring your dragon.
