Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson’s dreams come true on “DWTS.” (Adam Taylor/ABC)

“Dancing With the Stars” announced the cast for its 21st season Wednesday morning — and we couldn’t help but notice that the new contestants perfectly fit the profile of the 20 different types of celebrities (or “celebrities”) you see every season. Here’s a breakdown: This post has been updated with the newest cast names.

[‘Dancing With the Stars’ officially announces cast from Paula Deen to Nick Carter]

1) Stars who want to change the conversation
For a disgraced celebrity who wants to get back on the public’s good side, you can’t find a much safer show than its “everyone’s a winner!” spirit.
This season: Paula Deen, Gary Busey
Previous: David Hasselhoff; Kate Gosselin

2) Boy-band member
It’s an unfair advantage given that they already know how to dance. But for every Drew Lachey (who won the second season), there’s a Joey Fatone, who was the second one eliminated during the all-star season.
This season: Nick Carter
Previous: Joey Fatone; Drew Lachey; Lance Bass; Joey McIntyre

3) Celebrity offspring
A very powerful factor for some voters.
This season:
Bindi Irwin
Previous: Bristol Palin; Rumer Willis; Jack Osbourne; Rob Kardashian

4) Non-major team sport athlete
Horseback riding? Boxing? Swimming? Come on over to “DWTS,” where your athlete’s mentality will prove a big help in your training.
This season: Victor Espinoza
Previous: Michael Waltrip; Randy Couture; Chris Jericho; Diana Nyad; Louie Vito; Floyd Mayweather Jr.

5) Legendary entertainer
These dancers provide trips down memory lane (and some very fun routines dancing to their songs), but generally don’t last too long in the competition.
This season: Chaka Khan
Previous: Patti LaBelle; Wynonna Judd; Gladys Knight; Donny Osmond; Marie Osmond; Wayne Newton; Susan Lucci; Billy Dee Williams; Cloris Leachman

6) Pop singer
“DWTS” viewers skew on the older side, so it’s important for these more modern singers to appeal themselves to the crowd early on. Otherwise, you could be the first one to go (sorry, Redfoo).
This season: Andy Grammer
Previous: Gavin DeGraw; Redfoo, Mya; Mel B

7) Social media sensation
A fairly new category for ABC, but given how well YouTube phenom Bethany Mota worked out last year (and how much advertisers covet younger viewers), producers figured they would find out about this “Vine” trend.
This season: Hayes Grier
Previous: Bethany Mota

8) Teen sensation you’ve never heard of
“Big Time Rush?” Yeah, that’s a Nickelodeon show that has spawned two “DWTS” contestants. Another option is to be an adorable blond pop star beloved by tweens.
This season: Carlos PenaVega
Previous: Riker Lynch; James Maslow; Cody Simpson

9) Young star all grown up:
Aww, remember that little girl from “Spy Kids”? You don’t? Well, now’s the time to see if she’s a normal adult.
This season: Alexa PenaVega
Previous: Corbin Bleu; Jaleel White

10) Inspiring story
We’ll admit it’s hard not to tear up when someone who has overcome obstacles completes the perfect ballroom dance.
This season: Alek Skarlatos
Previous: Noah Galloway; Amy Purdy; J.R. Martinez

11) Reality star
These folks can go either way — sometimes the audience doesn’t have much patience for people who purely exist to create drama on reality show.
This season: Kim Zolciak, Tamar Braxton
Previous: Sadie Robertson; NeNe Leakes; Snooki; Lisa Vanderpump; Kristin Cavallari; Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino; Holly Madison; Kendra Wilkinson

12) “Serious” person proving they have a personality
The more serious the profession, the more people will be delighted that you don’t mind making a fool of yourself on national television.
Previous:
Tavis Smiley; Bill Nye; Nancy Grace; Tom DeLay; Buzz Aldrin; Steve Wozniak; Tucker Carlson

13) Nostalgic TV star
Viewer votes can carry these performers pretty far, even if they’re not the best dancers. The key is to not be embarrassed of your past successes, and bring up your former hit show or film as much as you can.
Previous: Suzanne Somers; Danica McKellar; Candace Cameron Bure; Valerie Harper; Florence Henderson; Pamela Anderson

14) NFL player
Athletes do well in general since they’re used to hours of physical training, and fans love when the football stars show off their moves.
Previous: Emmitt Smith; Donald Driver; Hines Ward; Jacoby Jones; Chad Ochocinco; Lawrence Taylor; Warren Sapp; Michael Sam; Jerry Rice

15) Olympic athlete
Other contestants should be worried when they see a gymnast show up — they’re natural dancers and athletes.
Previous:
Shawn Johnson; Nastia Liukin; Lolo Jones; Aly Raisman; Apolo Anton Ohno; Kristi Yamaguchi

16) ABC or ABC Family cast member
Can you say “synergy”?
Previous: Janel Parrish; Robert Herjavec; Brant Daugherty

17) Disney actors
Can you say “even more synergy”?
Previous:
Chelsea Kane; Roshon Fegan; Kyle Massey; Sabrina Bryan

18) “Bachelor” franchise
In fact, we’re pretty sure Jake Pavelka just went on “The Bachelor” so he could be on “DWTS.”
Previous: Chris Soules; Sean Lowe; Melissa Rycroft; Jake Pavelka; Trista Sutter

19) Models
It also helps if you’ve dated George Clooney. (See: Canalis, Elisabetta.)
Previous: Charlotte McKinney; Petra Němcová; Elisabetta Canalis

20) Country singers
A big voting fan base, as long as you don’t have a Sara Evans-type incident halfway through the season.
Previous: Kellie Pickler; Chuck Wicks; Billy Ray Cyrus; Sara Evans
