The concert was scheduled to be held at the Bercy Arena, which Variety notes is about three miles from Paris’s Bataclan Theater. More than 100 people were reportedly killed Friday after gunmen burst into the famed venue and took hostages during an Eagles of Death Metal concert.
France declared a state of emergency after the killings, which coincided with other attacks across Paris on Friday.
U2’s statement said that they, along with HBO and Live Nation, “are fully resolved to go ahead with this show at an appropriate time.”
“We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe,” the band added.
On social media, some fans posted the band’s 2005 song “City of Blinding Lights” in tribute to Paris.
