The product: Quicken Loans’ Rocket Mortgage
The premise: “Push button. Get mortgage.” The loan company promises to make buying a home as easy as it is to shop online. “And wouldn’t those buyers need to fill their homes with lamps and blenders and sectional couches with hand-lathed wooden legs?” a voiceover asks us.
The punchline: So… buying a home is all about buying more stuff, apparently. There’s no intended punchline here. But what this ad is suggesting is kind of silly. Home ownership is obviously not as simple as pressing a button on your phone (or your toddler pawing at it, as one scene suggests). At least, it probably shouldn’t be.
The verdict: Remember the recession? Quicken Loans, apparently, does not.
