With the news of a beloved celebrity’s death comes the challenge of putting together a newspaper cover worthy of the star. To choose the cover image, we sift through the best portraits from the person’s life. Sometimes, we peruse past illustrations. While The Post’s Friday Style cover features a photo of Prince, we wanted to share some of the lovely illustrations we came across.

11. One more, with a little backstory: In 2004, Prince’s tour brought him to Hartford, Conn. The Hartford Courant commissioned Pablo Lobato to do a portrait of the musician for their calendar section.

The day after the portrait ran, Prince’s management team called the paper to compliment the work. Prince’s team then contacted Anna Goodson Illustration Agency, based out of Quebec, who represents Pablo.

Prince loved the artwork and later commissioned Pablo to do a new portrait of him. He used the artwork for his show last week in Atlanta.
