If you were excited for potential awkwardness on Michael Strahan's last day on Disney-ABC's "Live! With Kelly and Michael," given all the drama leading up to his departure … you were probably disappointed.

The two hosts acted like true TV professionals. Kelly Ripa and Strahan held hands and danced out on stage, beaming toward the cheering studio audience. There was no real evidence of the reported tension between the pair, which appeared to flare up after Strahan announced he was leaving to be an anchor on "Good Morning America" and Ripa was furious that no one told her in advance.

Okay, maybe there was one hint of the controversy that took over the Internet for about a week. "You excited?" Ripa inquired of Strahan, who has co-hosted with her since September 2012.

"It's bittersweet," Strahan replied. "Of course you get nervous. … I've done this for four years, so this is a moment that I didn't anticipate being here, at least at this point. But it's here, and we're going to enjoy it."

Uh oh — was that a dig about how his last day was supposed to be late this summer but was quickly moved up in the wake of all the drama? We may never know; just as it's a mystery as to what Ripa really meant when she stepped out Thursday in a jacket that read "freedom" on the back.

Anyway, things proceeded as usual. During their opening desk chat, Ripa and Strahan bantered about their respective nights: Strahan went to a fancy event; Ripa and her husband ran into Alex Rodriguez at a bar. Strahan insisted he didn't want a big "to-do," so there wasn't much celebration aside from some flashback clips of Strahan's goofiest moments on the show and a tribute video at the end.

After guests Matt Bomer and Carmelo Anthony sat for interviews, Ripa gifted Strahan some farewell presents and offered some kind words.

"On behalf of myself and all of us, we couldn't be prouder of you. You have given us so much joy in the mornings. … We really are so, so proud of you," Ripa said, raising a glass of champagne. "We've achieved so much together and I look forward to watching you every morning and seeing what else you achieve at 'Good Morning America.'"

The audience cheered as Strahan said goodbye, calling the moment "very bittersweet." He offered a long tribute to the fans, as "Live!" is currently the second-most popular show in daytime TV: "I didn't know what to expect coming from sports to daytime television, and you guys opened up your hearts to me. … It's been so overwhelming with the response we had over the last four years."

As the credits rolled, he turned toward Ripa: "Kelly, you are the best," he said. "I love you, baby. I love you."

See? It was all fine. Though let's not forget this exchange near the top of the show, as Strahan reminded everyone that he's still in the ABC family at "GMA."

"I'm not dying," Strahan said. "I'm still available to come back if I'm ever called to co-host. … I'm not going anywhere. I'm not gone."

"You can fill in for me!" Ripa piped up. "I start vacation in a few weeks, I'll let you know."

"I don't know about that," Strahan chuckled in a joking way, but not really. "What do they say — 'Too soon?'"
