Anyway, the professional wrestler turned “Fast and the Furious” movie star has been hinting about a future presidential run for months — his fans really, really want him to run. He’s reportedly a registered Republican and has attended conventions for both parties; he spoke at the RNC in 2000. In this week’s People cover story, he appears to be campaigning already, saying he’s actually completely serious about a potential presidential campaign.
“I used to say it jokingly but every time I was asked, it was with a real genuine interest. And it was very earnest,” he said. “And so I started to really think. Could I make a difference? Could I surround myself with really brilliant people to help me make decisions? Do I care about this country? And when the answers continued to come up yes, then I thought, there’s a good chance. Yeah, one day. Then we’ll do another interview like this.”
That’s right, everyone — The Rock, currently the world’s highest-paid actor, and the man People boasts is “sweet, smart and sculpted” — could be your next celebrity candidate. As he put it to Vanity Fair earlier this week, “This past election shows that anything can happen.”
