Steve McBee, founder, president and chief executive of the lobby and advisory firm McBee Strategic, is joining NRG Energy as a senior executive, an NRG spokeswoman confirmed Thursday.
McBee, a former Democratic aide, founded McBee Strategic as a lobby shop in 2002 with three clients and has grown it to a $10 million-plus operation. He did not immediately return a request for comment.
NRG, a Fortune 250 company based in Houston and Princeton, NJ, plans to announce details about McBee’s role at a later date, said NRG vice president of communications Karen Cleeve. It was not immediately clear what role, if any, McBee would retain at the firm he founded. In 2013, McBee Strategic earned nearly $10.4 million in lobbying fees.
In addition to traditional lobbying, the firm has several other business units including a government capital group that helps companies compete for government grants and contracts, a business advisory unit, and a research and analytics group. In 2012, it acquired public affairs outfit Gibraltar Associates and incorporated the PR shop’s 20 employees.
The firm recently made a push into digital communications, including social media campaigns for corporate clients.
