Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

I like it warm, but possibly flirting with 90 in April is a bit too much, too soon, to go with a higher score.

Express Forecast

Today: Partly to mostly sunny. 20-30% chance of late-day shower/t’shower. Mid-80s to near 90.

Tonight: 20-30% chance of evening shower/t’shower. 60s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny. Small chance of late-day shower/t’shower. 80s.

Summer-like warmth has overtaken the D.C. area. Fortunately it’s minus the humidity, although you may start to notice a touch of it today. We may even challenge some record highs this afternoon. Tomorrow is another warm one before a cold front coming through early Friday, potentially with some showers and thunderstorms, sets the stage for a cooler and pleasant weekend.

Today (Wednesday): Spring fever catches fire today. With partly to mostly sunny skies and a warm breeze from the southwest (the mildest direction for the D.C. area), temperatures probably won’t stop til they reach afternoon highs in the mid-80s to near 90. Humidity is still more than tolerable, but you may actually notice a hint of it. A frontal boundary to the north is close enough for a 20-30% chance of a late afternoon or evening shower or thundershower. The record highs for the date are 89 at National and BWI (both set in 1922), and 78 at Dulles (set in 1992; Dulles record-keeping only goes back to 1963). Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Small chance (20-30%) of an evening shower or thundershower. Otherwise, we’re partly cloudy and pleasant, with evening temperatures dropping toward and into the 70s, and overnight lows mainly in the 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): As a cold front slowly approaches from the west, we stay in the warm sector out ahead of it. That means highs most likely back into the 80s under partly sunny skies. Still have to mention a small chance of an afternoon shower or thundershower. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: As the cold front gets closer, shower and thunderstorm chances increase. Can’t say for sure, but for now the timing looks like we may stay dry through much of the evening, with rain chances increasing to around 60% after midnight. A steady breeze from the south keeps us mild with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

There appears to be a decent chance a line of breezy showers and possibly thunderstorms comes through sometime Friday morning, perhaps not exiting the area until early afternoon. With enough afternoon clearing, highs should still manage to pop back into the 70s, but could stall in the 60s if clouds and rain last too long. Look for clearing skies Friday night with lows in the 40s to near 50. Confidence: Low-Medium

A much cooler weekend awaits. But with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the 60s, I don’t think we’ll find too much to complain about. We’re on the cool side Saturday night with lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Not seeing any weekend shower threats at the moment, but we’ll keep an eye on it as we get closer. Confidence: Medium
