Washington, D.C. has reached at least 90 degrees so far today as measured at National Airport, the city’s official observing station. That breaks the old record high for the date of 89 in 1922.

BWI Airport has also warmed to at least 90F, breaking an identical record of 89 in 1922, while Dulles Airport (up to at least 89F) has clobbered its old record of 78 in 1992.

Some interesting stats…

  • Today is the third consecutive day that National has notched a high of at least 80 degrees and the third this April, compared to the historical April average of 3.6 80-degree days.
  • It’s also the first 90-degree day in April since 2010 (the high reached 90 on April 6 and 7 that year) according to CWG’s Ian Livingston, compared to the historical April average of 0.4 90-degree days.
  • The most 80+ days in April all-time was 11 in 1976, and the most 90+ days in April was 5 in 1960 and 1976.
  • And today is the 11th time on record that D.C. has reached 90+ this early in the year. The previous 10 as compiled by Ian Livingston: 3/23/1907 (93); 3/29/1907 (92); 3/22/1907 (90); 4/7/1929 (94); 4/8/1929  (93); 4/6/1929  (92); 4/6/1942 (92); 4/9/1959 (90); 4/6/2010 (90); 4/7/2010 (90)
