The front draped over the region this weekend has retreated to the north, allowing summertime to invade.  The humidity is here and the heat builds, climaxing at near 90 midweek. A strong cold front charges onto the scene Thursday, inviting cooler air back into the region for the holiday weekend.  We have varying (generally low) late day storm chances through Thursday with perhaps a showery scenario Sunday into Memorial Day.

Today (Monday): It may be a bit cloudy and soupy early on, but the sun should make itself known as the morning wears on and you’ll notice some humidity (dew points into the low-to-mid 60s).  A weak disturbance passing through in the afternoon could set off a few thunderstorms (30 percent chance), which could be locally heavy, but unlikely severe. High are within a few degrees of 80. Winds are from the south at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: A few thunderstorms may linger into the evening (20-30 percent chance), but generally it’s just partly to mostly cloudy and warm.  Lows only fall into the mid-to-upper 60s in the city, to the low 60s in the cooler suburbs. Light winds from the south. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A pretty typical early summer kind of day (though it’s still late spring).  We’ll have a good deal of sunshine and winds from the south (near 10 mph).  That equates to highs in the mid-80s, with a bit of humidity to boot. I can’t entirely rule out an isolated late afternoon or early evening thundershower (20 percent chance) Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Warm and feeling like summer for sure.  Mild lows from 60-68 under partly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday’s probably the warmest (hottest?) day of the week with partly sunny skies, and temps taking a ride up to near 90. We’ll have some humidity too, so an isolated afternoon/evening storm is possible (20-30 percent chance).  Mild once again overnight with lows 63-69 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium

A strong cold front approaches the region Thursday, presenting better than 50/50 odds of showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon.  We sneak in one more day of summery temps, with highs into the mid-80s.  Showers/storms could linger into the overnight hours, but probably decrease in coverage/intensity.   Lows are around 60.  Confidence: Medium

While it’s not quite as warm Friday, the more significant push of cool air holds off until the weekend.  So we may still make a pretty good run through the 70s. Thursday’s front may hang around close enough for a few afternoon showers and storms (30 percent chance).   Clearing out Friday night and cooler, with lows from near 50 in the cooler suburbs to the upper 50s downtown. Confidence: Low-Medium

Of the Memorial Day weekend days, Saturday holds the most promise to be sunny and dry.  Some may find it a bit cool; given highs struggling to make 70  not to mention a stiff breeze – but others may consider it pretty delightful.   Saturday night is mostly clear, dry, and a bit chilly, with some 40s in the cooler suburbs to near 50 downtown. Sunday and Memorial Day are a bit tricky as a front may set up over the region spreading clouds and perhaps some showers, particularly the second half of Sunday into Monday. I’d favor (at least right now) cooler temperatures as opposed to warmer, with highs probably not much higher than 70-75 (lows in the 50s to near 60).  Lots of time between now and then, so keep checking our forecasts. Confidence: Low-Medium
