Get ready for our first real 90-degree day of the year. I say “real” because we did hit 91 in D.C. on April 10. But the 90s we’ll see over the next few days are a different breed thanks to a healthy dose of humidity. On the other hand, no need to over-hype this mini heat wave. We’re probably not talking record heat, and there’s nothing terribly unusual about a few 90-degree days in late May heading into June.

Today (Wednesday): It feels every bit like summer today with partly sunny skies and noticeable humidity. Warm winds from the southwest at 5-15 mph help push highs to near 90, with a 20% chance of a passing shower or thundershower. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: We hold on to a 20% chance of an evening shower or thundershower both here in the D.C. area and up in Baltimore for those catching the Nats-O’s at Camden Yards. Otherwise, we’re looking at a rather muggy night with partly cloudy skies and lows in the mid-60s to low 70s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): We turn up the heat another notch as highs head for the low 90s, helped by partly to mostly sunny skies and a breeze from the south-southwest near 10 mph. Add in some moderate humidity and the afternoon heat index may max out in the mid-90s. Just a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thundershower. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: If anything, tomorrow night might be a couple degrees warmer than tonight. Other than a slight chance of an evening shower or thundershower, mild and muggy is the story with lows mainly in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

It’s a copy-and-paste kind of forecast for Friday and Saturday. Skies continue partly to mostly sunny and highs return to the low-to-mid 90s with no let up in the humidity. Perhaps an isolated shower or thundershower Saturday afternoon or evening. More of the same for Friday night and Saturday night lows, which find themselves in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday still looks warm and humid with highs somewhere in the upper 80s to mid-90s. Depending on the speed of an approaching cold front, the afternoon may feature increasing clouds with a chance of showers and thunderstorms by afternoon or evening. Confidence: Low-Medium
