FORECAST IN DETAIL

Temperature Map

Temperatures:Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

We welcome meteorological summer in fashion today with highs rising near and past 90. That heat begins to wane tomorrow, but the relaxation comes via a cold front and growing storm risk. Once we get through that, some excellent weather is ahead! Do yourself a favor and find a pool today. Above all else, stay hydrated if outdoors.

Today (Saturday): Mostly sunny and toasty. Temperatures rise to highs near 90 or as high as the mid-90s. With dew points in the upper 60s to near 70, heat indices close to 100 are possible. A southwest breeze around 5 to 10 mph won’t bring much relief. There’s a slight risk of a late day shower or storm. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: We run that slight risk (20% chance) of a shower or storm into the evening, but overall it’s quiet. It remains rather humid, and that keeps lows from falling much past the upper 60s to lower 70s. Ahh, summer. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): Sunshine won’t be quite as dominant as in recent days as a cold front approaches from the west. By mid-to-late afternoon, showers and storms should be developing and approaching from the west (60% chance). Some of these storms may be severe, with isolated damaging wind likely the main threat. Highs should reach the mid-80s to low 90s, depending on when clouds and storms arrive. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Showers and thunderstorms may persist into the night (50%-70% west to east), though any severe storm threat should wane around sunset or shortly after. Lows might be a touch cooler than tonight, but not much. Upper 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

The front may be somewhat slow to move east on Monday, so showers remain possible (40%-60% west to east). It will eventually get out of here though, and skies trend clearer through the day. Highs range from near 80 to the mid-80s. The fresher air overnight will feel quite nice, as lows reach the mid-50s to near 60. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday brings a full retreat of the warm and muggies as the cold front pushes well out into the ocean. Skies are partly to mostly sunny. With drier and slightly cooler air filtering in, highs rise to the upper 70s and low 80s. Confidence: Medium
